Cognitive Rehabilitation Therapy (CRT) is a form of treatment designed to enhance neurocognitive functions after a brain injury or other neurological conditions or diseases.
Survivors of brain injuries encounter a wide range of symptoms. Some may struggle with starting and completing essential tasks, while others face difficulties with divided attention or memory, both short and long-term. Many experience significant impacts on executive functions like prioritization, planning, and organization. Regardless of the specific challenge, difficulties in these areas have a direct effect on daily life. Similarly, individuals dealing with the lasting effects of chemotherapy, other mild cognitive impairments, and long COVID often face significant cognitive challenges that alter their lives.
Individual CRT sessions concentrate on creating compensatory strategies and techniques to address and improve cognitive deficiencies. These interventions are customized to help the person enhance their independence in their natural environments, such as at home and within the community. By engaging in practice and repetition, weakened cognitive functions can be reinforced. Restorative skills focus on some of the following cognitive domains:
Fatigue, stamina and endurance
Attention and concentration
Memory
Information Processing
Executive Functioning (judgement, prioritization, planning and organization)
Safety Awareness
Frustration Tolerance
Awareness Building
Sessions are offered in person in
your home or telehealth.
